Spotlight on nominee Sandy Hook Promise

Nominee Sandy Hook Promise

Next in our series of posts about new Charitocracy nominees, we have nominee Sandy Hook Promise, nominated by donor Stephanie. They protect America’s children from gun violence in honor of the precious lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. You can find their web site here.

A few words on Charitocracy

Firstly, for newcomers: here's how it works. Donors pool their monthly contributions, as little as $1. The cause with the most votes each month wins the pot. No matter how much or how little you contribute, each donor at Charitocracy gets one vote. This is where charity meets democracy. So please share this post (see social sharing icons at top of post) and ask your friends to join us and vote! That's how we spread the word and, as a result, grow the monthly pot. The bigger the pot, the bigger our positive impact on the world!

About nominee Sandy Hook Promise

May 2022 winner NARAL Pro-Choice America

Charitocracy's 69th check to May winner NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation for $1040

We have good news about May winner NARAL Pro-Choice America, right after this quick update...

A Relief Valve for Conscientious Objectors

With Planned Parenthood and now NARAL Pro-Choice America both winning over the past year, there's something I should probably mention. Or at least remind you about since I bet I haven't mentioned it in years. It's a mechanism I built into Charitocracy dating back to the beta-test stage in summer of 2016.

It has not been used often, and I hope it continues not to be needed often. But if you have a dilemma whereby you can't in good conscience, for example due to religious beliefs, support the winning cause, you just need to get in touch and we'll direct your monthly contribution that month toward Charitocracy's general expenses instead of the monthly grant check.

Here's where you can find it described in the FAQ if you're curious!

So just be sure to let me know during the 1st week of the month before I write out the check, and I'm happy to keep you happy. While I always want democracy to prevail, I also want you all to sleep well at night. 😘

May 2022 winner NARAL Pro-Choice America

At midnight on May 31 we named Charitocracy's 69th monthly winner. Congratulations to NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation, nominated by donor Stephanie. They shift the culture of shame around abortion to help guarantee every woman the right to informed and empowered choices. You can find their website here.

Now you have a week to further sweeten the pot with a special one-time donation of any amount, which we'll add straight to the check we write to NARAL next week.

So finally check out this short video, “The Future Is Forward,” which takes viewers on a journey through time, to see and feel how far we’ve come in the fight for reproductive freedom in the United States. Then feel good about your part in our collective $1040+ grant to support NARAL's ongoing work.

Have a great June and be sure to log into Charitocracy to update your votes or nominate a new cause!
