After receiving an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who want to help, Mayor Sylvester Turner and County Judge Ed Emmett have established the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund that will accept tax-deductible flood relief donations for victims affected by the recent floods. The fund will be housed at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.

So many great causes but this one seems like a no brainer this month!

This is not rated on Charity Navigator so we have no verified information regarding distribution of funds. I am very cautious about donating to charities not rated by Charity Navigator. How about you?

    Great question!

A good rating or a bad rating from Charity Navigator is valuable info, but such a small % (or sub-%!) of charities are presently rated on there, no rating can’t be taken as a negative.

This video covers some of GHCF’s 20-year track record, and I personally feel like this local approach would serve the community better than, for example, the Red Cross:

Thank you for your comments, Benj. That makes sense in this case & I appreciate the information.
