Sea Change Partnership works directly with the Outer Banks Latino community to promote education and encourage cross-cultural understanding. Sea Change started FREE weekly English classes in January for the growing population of Spanish-speaking people on the Outer Banks, and more than fifty people showed up at the first meeting – and kept coming back! From a recent post on their Facebook page: “We offered a class and ended up with a college – in just two weeks! We knew there was a need but never imagined how great it really was. Thank you to all the tutors for coming forward and banding together so quickly.”

They now have ten volunteer teachers and seven classrooms in a donated office space in Nags Head, but they really need financial assistance to keep up with the growth of this project.

Sea Change Partnership is about more than a language barrier; they’re dedicated to creating family awareness of the importance of education and community engagement. They strive to nurture resilience in Latino families by identifying and building on family strengths. They organize special cultural events to build cross-cultural interaction and to create opportunities for families to learn and grow together. Above all, they truly care about the quality of life of every member of our Outer Banks Latino community. For a bit more information, you can visit their webpage here.
